The Detroit Medical Orchestra mourns the loss of our friend, colleague, fellow musician, Alice R. Shanaver, D.O. who passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, 3/15/18.
Dr. Shanaver impacted the lives of so many through her work as a compassionate and dedicated osteopathic physician through the Beaumont and Henry Ford Hospitals, an inspiring educator and mentor to countless medical students through Michigan State University’s Collage of Osteopathic Medicine, and passionate supporter of the arts - especially the the healing power of music.
Dr. Shanaver’s beautiful and energetic spirit contributed to our orchestra’s mission of “Bringing Healing Through Music” in so many ways; not only by being a violist in the orchestra, but also by her generous spirit of volunteering and supporting the orchestra’s community outreach initiatives and mentoring students and young musicians. She truly lived a life dedicated to healing, teaching, mentoring and inspiring.
We remember and honor her by naming the Principal Viola chair of our orchestra the “Dr. Alice R. Shanaver Memorial Chair.”
